XDC Network is an independent chain aimed at trade finance and real-world assets. Fees are paid in XDC.
Its quirk is cosmetic but consequential: the same address is written two ways. XDC's own tools show it starting with xdc, while MetaMask shows the identical address starting with 0x.
They are the same wallet. Importing both would count your holdings twice.
What you get out of the box
Pick your import method.
On XDC Network
- Copy your address from your wallet. It may start with xdc or with 0x depending on which tool you use.
- Add it once. If you have seen your address written both ways, those are one wallet, not two.
On Kryptos
- Go to Kryptos.io and sign up with your Google account.
- From the menu, click Integrations.
- Click Add Integration and search for XDC Network.
- Click the XDC Network icon, then choose Import using Address.
- Give the wallet a name, paste your address, and click Import Your Transactions.
Good to know
- An address starting xdc and the same address starting 0x are identical. Only the first three characters differ.
- XDC and XDCE are different things. XDCE was the version issued on Ethereum before this network launched.
- Sending mainnet XDC to an Ethereum address is a known and costly mistake, because the addresses look the same.
Why your address looks like two different addresses
Open an XDC block explorer and your address starts with xdc. Open MetaMask and the same address starts with 0x. Nothing else differs: the forty characters after the prefix are identical in both.
This is a display choice, not a different kind of address. XDC chose to write addresses with its own prefix to make them recognisable, while tools built for Ethereum write the same bytes the Ethereum way. One wallet, one private key, two ways of printing it.
The practical rule is simple. To paste into MetaMask, swap the leading xdc for 0x. To share with someone using XDC's own tools, swap it back. Nothing else changes and you are not converting between two things.
For your records the danger is duplication. Someone reconciling a year might copy the xdc form from the explorer and the 0x form from their wallet, add both, and see their holdings double. Worse, the phantom second wallet can produce phantom transfers between the two, which look like trades. Add the address once.
A related trap worth knowing: XDC also existed as a token on Ethereum, called XDCE, before this network launched, and holders swapped one for one when it did. Because Ethereum addresses and XDC addresses look so similar, people still occasionally send native XDC to the old Ethereum contract and lose it. For how migrations are treated where you file, see the USA crypto tax guide or the UK crypto tax guide.

Importing an address written two ways
Your explorer shows xdc and your wallet shows 0x. Add the wallet once, in either form, and Kryptos treats it as the single account it is.
Carrying cost through the 2019 migration
Long-term holders started with XDCE on Ethereum and swapped to XDC when this network launched. That was a migration, not a sale, so the original cost carries forward.
Borrowing against your XDC
Locking XDC to mint a stablecoin is a loan rather than a disposal. A liquidation, though, is a forced sale of your collateral and does need reporting.
Audit-ready, automatically.
Once your wallets and exchanges are connected, generating a tax report takes a single click. Open Reports from the menu, choose your jurisdiction, and download.
One wallet written twice is still one wallet
The xdc and 0x forms are the same address with a different first three characters. Adding both would double your holdings and can create gains that do not exist.
The XDCE swap was a migration
Holders of the Ethereum version swapped one for one for native XDC when the network launched. Nothing was sold, so the original purchase price should carry across.
Borrowing is not a disposal, liquidation is
Locking XDC to mint a stablecoin does not dispose of the XDC. If the position is liquidated, that is a forced sale at the liquidation price and it is reportable.
Asset-backed tokens may be treated differently
Tokens representing gold or private credit can fall under different rules from ordinary crypto in some countries. Worth flagging to your accountant rather than assuming.
Read-only by design.
- Kryptos only ever needs your public wallet address
- A public address is read-only. It can't move or spend anything
- We never ask for your recovery phrase or private key
- Remove a wallet whenever you like, and its data goes with it
If something doesn't sync.
You have probably added your address twice, once starting xdc and once starting 0x. They are the same wallet. Remove one.
MetaMask needs the 0x form. Replace the leading xdc with 0x and the rest of the address stays exactly as it is.
Check whether you sent to an Ethereum address rather than an XDC one. They look alike. Contact the exchange with the transaction details.
