MegaETH

MegaETH is an Ethereum layer 2 built for speed. It uses the same address as Ethereum, so one paste covers your position.

Fees are paid in ETH. MEGA exists as a token on the network but it is not what you pay gas with, and several chain listings get that wrong.

Its unusual feature is that transactions confirm in around ten milliseconds, well before they land in a normal block. That is pleasant to use and produces two different timestamps for the same transaction.

What you get out of the box

ETH and token transfers on MegaETH
MEGA and other token holdings
Lending on Aave and Morpho
Swaps and liquidity on Kumbaya and other exchanges
Perpetuals trading on GMX
Bridge movements to and from Ethereum

Pick your import method.

On MegaETH

  1. Open your wallet and copy your address. It starts with 0x and matches your Ethereum address.

On Kryptos

  1. Go to Kryptos.io and sign up with your Google account.
  2. From the menu, click Integrations.
  3. Click Add Integration and search for MegaETH.
  4. Click the MegaETH icon, then choose Import using Address.
  5. Give the wallet a name, paste your address, and click Import Your Transactions.

Good to know

  • Gas is paid in ETH. If a report shows MEGA being spent on fees, it has read the chain wrongly.
  • Withdrawals back to Ethereum take about a week and arrive in several steps.
  • Tokens bridged here are separate contracts from their Ethereum versions, so cost only follows if both wallets are imported.

What gas is paid in, and why listings get it wrong

MegaETH has a token called MEGA. It does not pay for gas. Gas is paid in ETH, exactly as on Ethereum itself, and MegaETH's own documentation says so.

This trips up more than casual readers. Automated chain listings routinely report a network's headline token as its gas token, because for a standalone chain those are usually the same thing. On a layer 2 backed by a project with its own token they are often not, and MegaETH is one of several networks where the published answer is wrong.

The consequence for your report is not cosmetic. Every transaction has a fee, and if the fee is priced against the wrong asset then every line is wrong by whatever the gap between two charts happens to be. Over an active year on a chain built for high-frequency use, that adds up.

Kryptos prices fees in ETH here because that is what leaves your balance. For how fees affect gains where you file, see the USA crypto tax guide or the UK crypto tax guide.

Bridging in from Ethereum

Moving assets across is a transfer between wallets you own. Import both sides so the legs pair up rather than reading as a sale and a purchase.

Lending on Aave

Aave holds roughly two thirds of the value on this chain. Supplying, borrowing and the interest each need separate treatment.

Reconciling timestamps that disagree

A transaction gets confirmed almost instantly and then included in a block a moment later, so exports from different tools can disagree on when it happened.

Audit-ready, automatically.

Once your wallets and exchanges are connected, generating a tax report takes a single click. Open Reports from the menu, choose your jurisdiction, and download.

Gas is an ETH disposal

Fees leave your ETH balance, not your MEGA. Anything pricing your fees against MEGA is valuing them against the wrong asset.

Withdrawals to Ethereum arrive in stages

A withdrawal is started here, then proved and finalised on Ethereum about a week later. That is three records across two chains for one movement of money.

Bridging to yourself is not a sale

Ownership does not change when you move assets between Ethereum and MegaETH. Import both wallets and Kryptos pairs the two legs.

Bridged tokens have their own contracts

A token here is a different contract from the Ethereum original, so the purchase price only carries across if the wallet that bought it is imported too.

Read-only by design.

  • Kryptos only ever needs your public wallet address
  • A public address is read-only. It can't move or spend anything
  • We never ask for your recovery phrase or private key
  • Remove a wallet whenever you like, and its data goes with it

If something doesn't sync.

My fees are showing in the wrong token

Gas on MegaETH is paid in ETH. MEGA is an ordinary token on the network and is not spent on fees.

A withdrawal looks like several transactions

It is. Withdrawing to Ethereum takes a start, a proof and a finalisation. Kryptos treats them as one movement.

My timestamps do not match my exchange records

MegaETH confirms transactions before they are included in a block, so different tools can report slightly different times for the same transaction.
