CSV File Import Manual Import

CoinbasePRO

Coinbase Pro closed on 20 November 2023 and became part of Coinbase Advanced Trade. Your balances moved across automatically, so nothing was sold and nothing needed doing.

Your history moved too, into the Statements section of your main Coinbase account.

There is one thing about that worth knowing before you file, and it catches a lot of people: Coinbase's own tax reports do not include your Coinbase Pro trades.

What you get out of the box

Coinbase Pro trades from the statements
Deposits and withdrawals from that era
Fees charged on each trade
Later activity through Coinbase Advanced Trade

Pick your import method.

In your Coinbase account

  1. Sign in to Coinbase, open your profile, then Settings.
  2. Go to Accounts, then Statements.
  3. Generate a statement for each year you used Coinbase Pro. They come one year at a time, so a long history means several files.
  4. Do this sooner rather than later. Old statements are not guaranteed to stay available forever.

On Kryptos

  1. Log in to Kryptos.
  2. Go to Integrations.
  3. Click Add Integration, then search for and select Coinbase Pro.
  4. Click the Coinbase Pro icon and choose Upload CSV.
  5. Upload the file. Kryptos reads it and categorises the transactions for you.

Good to know

  • The gain and loss report Coinbase produces does not cover your Coinbase Pro activity.
  • Statements come one year at a time, so several years means several downloads.
  • The old Coinbase Pro API keys stopped working. Advanced Trade uses different ones.

The gap in the report most people never notice

If you traded on Coinbase Pro and you file using Coinbase's own gain and loss report, your return is probably wrong. That is worth saying bluntly, because the failure is silent.

When Coinbase retired Pro in November 2023, balances moved into the main Coinbase account automatically. Nothing was sold, no deadline applied, and from the user's point of view very little happened. So people reasonably assume everything else moved across too.

The trading history did move, into Statements. But the tax reports Coinbase generates do not draw on it. Pull your gain and loss report and you get your Coinbase activity, not your Coinbase Pro activity. For somebody who did most of their trading on Pro, which was the point of Pro, that report is missing the majority of what they did.

The fix is to go to Settings, then Accounts, then Statements, and generate a file for each year you used it. They come one year at a time, so several years means several downloads.

Do it now rather than at filing time. Published guidance about how long statements from a retired product stay available is not consistent, and we are not going to quote a date we cannot stand behind. What we can say is that downloading them today costs you nothing and removes the question entirely. For how trading records are treated where you file, see the USA crypto tax guide or the UK crypto tax guide.

Filling the gap in a Coinbase tax report

Coinbase's own report leaves out Pro activity. If your report looks lighter than your memory of your trading, this is why.

Carrying cost through the migration

Balances moved to your main account without being sold, so the price you originally paid still applies.

Getting several years out

Statements are generated per year, so reconstructing a long history means repeating the process.

Audit-ready, automatically.

Once your wallets and exchanges are connected, generating a tax report takes a single click. Open Reports from the menu, choose your jurisdiction, and download.

The migration was not a disposal

Your balances moved between products run by the same company, with you owning them throughout. Nothing was sold, so your original cost carries across and no gain was realised by the change.

Coinbase's tax report is incomplete on its own

It does not include Coinbase Pro activity. Filing from it alone would omit every trade you made there, which for an active Pro user is most of their history.

Export sooner rather than later

Statements from a retired product are not guaranteed to remain available indefinitely, and published guidance on how long is not consistent. Getting your files now costs nothing and removes the risk.

Old API access no longer works

The Coinbase Pro interface was retired along with the product. Anything automated against it needs rebuilding against the current one.

Read-only by design.

  • A file upload is read-only. Nothing connects to your account
  • Kryptos never asks for your password or login details
  • Delete an import at any time and its data goes with it
  • Keep the original file: it is your evidence if anyone asks later

If something doesn't sync.

My Coinbase tax report looks incomplete

It excludes Coinbase Pro activity. Pull your statements separately and combine them.

I cannot log in to Coinbase Pro

It was retired in November 2023. Your account and balances are in your main Coinbase account.

My statement only covers one year

That is how they are generated. Produce one for each year you traded.
