AscendEX has stopped operating. Trading and deposits were suspended on 1 July 2026 with very little notice, and automatic withdrawals were switched off days later, so each withdrawal now goes through manual approval.
If you still have a balance there, getting it out is the first job and it may take patience. Getting your transaction history out is the second, and it is the one people skip.
Export whatever the account will still give you. A history you cannot download later is a history you will have to reconstruct by hand, if it can be reconstructed at all.
What you get out of the box
Pick your import method.
While you still have access
- Request your withdrawal. Approvals are manual now, so expect it to take longer than it used to.
- Export your full history: spot trades, any margin or futures activity, staking and lending rewards, and every deposit and withdrawal.
- Save the raw files. Once an exchange stops, exports tend to stop working before the login page does.
On Kryptos
- Go to Kryptos.io and sign up with your Google account.
- From the menu, click Integrations.
- Click Add Integration and search for AscendEX.
- Upload the files you exported. If your API key still works, Import using API Keys pulls everything in one go instead.
- Check the imported totals against your own records before the exchange goes, while you can still look something up.
Good to know
- Trading and deposits were suspended on 1 July 2026.
- Withdrawals need manual approval, so they are slower than usual.
- Export rewards separately if you used staking or lending. They usually sit in their own report.
- If you cannot retrieve something, keep a record of what you held and what you tried. That evidence matters for claiming a loss.
What to do when an exchange stops without warning
AscendEX suspended trading and deposits on 1 July 2026, then turned off automatic withdrawals within the week. For anyone holding a balance the priority is obvious: get it out, and accept that manual approval takes time.
The less obvious priority is your records. Exports tend to break before logins do, so the window for downloading your history is usually shorter than the window for withdrawing. Pull whatever you can now, even if it is incomplete.
If some assets never come back, what supports a loss claim is evidence: what you held, what it cost, and what you did to try to recover it. Rules vary by country, and the USA crypto tax guide and UK crypto tax guide cover how losses are treated in each.

Records that outlive the exchange
Importing what you can now means your report does not depend on a site that has already stopped trading.
Rewards counted as income
Staking and lending payouts are income at the value they had when they arrived. Those rows are the easiest to lose.
Losses documented properly
If something proves unrecoverable, what you need is evidence of what you held and what you tried to do about it.
Audit-ready, automatically.
Once your wallets and exchanges are connected, generating a tax report takes a single click. Open Reports from the menu, choose your jurisdiction, and download.
Assets you cannot recover
If funds end up genuinely unrecoverable, that may be claimable as a loss. Rules differ by country and usually turn on showing the assets are really gone rather than merely delayed, so keep every record of what you held and what you tried.
Moving your funds out is not a sale
Withdrawing to your own wallet or another exchange is a transfer between your own accounts, not a disposal. It only reads that way if the receiving side is missing, so add the destination too.
Rewards are income when they arrived
Staking and lending payouts count at their value on the day you received them, whatever happened to the exchange afterwards.
Past years still stand
An exchange stopping does not undo the tax years you traded in. Those disposals belong in the returns for their own years.
Read-only by design.
- Create the key with read permission only, never withdrawal
- A read-only key can see your history but can't move funds
- Kryptos never asks for your password or login details
- Revoke the key on the exchange at any time and the connection stops
If something doesn't sync.
Automatic withdrawals were switched off in July 2026, so each one is approved by hand. Slower is expected.
Export whatever the account still offers, even partial files. Partial records are far better than none, and they can be topped up from your own wallet history on the receiving side.
Keep evidence of what you held and every attempt to retrieve it. That is what a loss claim rests on.
