AILayer

AILayer still produces blocks, but almost nothing happens on them. On the day we checked, the network processed no transactions at all and its blocks used no gas.

So the chain is technically running and practically finished. Your balance is still there and still readable, which is what matters for a tax report.

Your address starts with 0x and gas, where any is spent, is paid in BTC.

What you get out of the box

BTC transfers and gas on AILayer
Bitcoin deposits credited through the bridge
Swaps on the chain's remaining exchange
Token holdings and staking positions

Pick your import method.

On AILayer

  1. Open your wallet and copy your address. It starts with 0x.
  2. If you deposited bitcoin, add your Bitcoin wallet as well. That side is not visible here.

On Kryptos

  1. Go to Kryptos.io and sign up with your Google account.
  2. From the menu, click Integrations.
  3. Click Add Integration and search for AILayer.
  4. Click the AILayer icon, then choose Import using Address.
  5. Give the wallet a name, paste your address, and click Import Your Transactions.

Good to know

  • The chain produces empty blocks. Your balance is readable but there is little recent activity to import.
  • Deposited bitcoin went to an address the bridge controls, not to one you control.
  • There is one small exchange on the chain and essentially nothing else.

Producing blocks is not the same as being used

AILayer is a useful illustration of why a chain answering questions is not proof that anything is happening on it.

Its blocks advance normally, a few seconds apart, exactly as they should. Ask the chain for its latest block and you get a fresh one. By the usual test, it is alive.

Look at what is in the blocks and the picture changes. On the day we checked, the network had processed no transactions at all, and sampling hundreds of consecutive blocks turned up nothing in any of them. The gas used per block was zero. The chain is producing empty containers.

Its own totals do show millions of transactions and a million addresses, which is real: it was used, once. A lifetime figure describes the past and says nothing about the present, which is why those numbers are misleading if read as activity.

For your records the consequence is mild but worth knowing. Your balance is still there and still readable, so it belongs in your holdings. There is just not much recent history to import. And if the chain does stop, assets on it become a worthlessness question rather than a sale, which is easier to deal with before it happens than after. See the USA crypto tax guide or the UK crypto tax guide.

Reading a balance off a quiet chain

Even with no recent activity, your holdings are still on the chain and still need to appear in your report.

Recording a bitcoin deposit

Bitcoin sent here went to a bridge-controlled address, which is a custody arrangement rather than a self-transfer.

Accounting for a position you cannot exit

If the chain stops entirely, holdings on it may become unreachable, which is a worthlessness question.

Audit-ready, automatically.

Once your wallets and exchanges are connected, generating a tax report takes a single click. Open Reports from the menu, choose your jurisdiction, and download.

Depositing bitcoin here was a custody arrangement

Your bitcoin went to an address the bridge controls, and you received a credit on this chain. That is closer to handing an asset to somebody than to moving your own money, so a disposal is the more conservative reading.

A quiet chain is not a worthless one, yet

Blocks are still being produced and balances are still readable, so this is not the same as a chain that has stopped. But it is worth deciding what to do while you still can.

Fee sharing to stakers is income

Where the chain shares transaction fee revenue with people who stake, those receipts are income at the value when they arrive.

Explorer totals count history, not activity

The chain records millions of past transactions and almost none recently. A lifetime figure says nothing about whether it is still being used.

Read-only by design.

  • Kryptos only ever needs your public wallet address
  • A public address is read-only. It can't move or spend anything
  • We never ask for your recovery phrase or private key
  • Remove a wallet whenever you like, and its data goes with it

If something doesn't sync.

My transactions stop at some point

That is likely the chain rather than your wallet. It has been producing empty blocks, so there is nothing recent to import.

My bitcoin never arrived

Deposits went through a bridge that credited your address here. Check this chain rather than Bitcoin for the other side.

I cannot swap anything

There is very little liquidity left. One small exchange remains and everything else has effectively gone.
