Bifrost

Two separate projects are called Bifrost, so it is worth being precise. This page covers Bifrost Network, whose token is BFC and whose addresses start with 0x.

The other one is a liquid staking project in the Polkadot ecosystem, whose token is BNC and whose addresses look nothing like an Ethereum address. If that is what you hold, this is not your page.

On Bifrost Network, fees are paid in BFC and its distinctive feature is that the validators also move assets between chains.

What you get out of the box

BFC transfers and gas
Staking, nomination and the rewards it pays
Cross-chain movements handled by the network itself
Lending on BiFi
Liquid staking positions
Swaps and liquidity on Everdex

Pick your import method.

On Bifrost Network

  1. Open your wallet and copy your address. It starts with 0x, despite the network not being built on Ethereum.
  2. If you stake, you may have more than one address: one holding the stake and another doing the work. Add each that holds a balance.

On Kryptos

  1. Go to Kryptos.io and sign up with your Google account.
  2. From the menu, click Integrations.
  3. Click Add Integration and search for Bifrost.
  4. Click the Bifrost icon, then choose Import using Address.
  5. Give the wallet a name, paste your address, and click Import Your Transactions.

Good to know

  • BFC exists both on this network and as a token on Ethereum. Same name, two places, and moving between them leaves records on both.
  • Staking rewards settle twice a day, so a year of staking produces a lot of small income events.
  • Unstaking takes about a week before the tokens are free.

Which Bifrost is this?

This is worth settling before you import anything, because the two projects are genuinely unrelated and even the major data providers disagree about which one owns the plain name.

Bifrost Network is an independent chain whose token is BFC. Although it is not built on Ethereum's technology, it presents ordinary Ethereum-style addresses, so you copy an address starting 0x and everything behaves the way you would expect. Its distinguishing feature is that the same validators securing the chain also move assets between chains, so cross-chain transfers are part of the network rather than a separate bridge.

Bifrost, sometimes Bifrost Finance, is a liquid staking project in the Polkadot ecosystem whose token is BNC. Its addresses look nothing like Ethereum addresses, and its main product is tokens representing staked assets from other networks.

One quick test: if your address starts with 0x, you are on the network this page describes. If it does not, you are on the other one.

The ambiguity has practical consequences beyond picking the right page. Price data keyed on the name rather than on the specific token can resolve to the wrong project entirely, and the two have unrelated prices. For how holdings are reported where you file, see the USA crypto tax guide or the UK crypto tax guide.

Adding up rewards that arrive twice a day

Staking here settles every twelve hours, so a full year produces hundreds of separate receipts at hundreds of different prices.

Tracking a staking setup across several addresses

One staking position can involve more than one address: one holds the stake, another performs the operations. Both belong to you.

Moving BFC between networks

BFC exists on this network and on Ethereum. Moving between them is a transfer of your own tokens, not a sale, but it leaves records on two chains.

Audit-ready, automatically.

Once your wallets and exchanges are connected, generating a tax report takes a single click. Open Reports from the menu, choose your jurisdiction, and download.

Rewards accrue twice daily, not annually

Staking settles at the end of each twelve-hour round. Each settlement is income at that moment's value, so a single figure applied to a whole year will not match what you received.

Moving BFC between networks is not a sale

The version on Ethereum and the version here are the same asset in two places. Import both sides and it pairs as a transfer rather than reading as a disposal and a purchase.

A staking setup can span several addresses

Separating the address that holds the stake from the one that operates it is normal here. They are all yours, and importing only one leaves part of the position invisible.

Unstaking is not a disposal

Withdrawing from staking takes about a week and returns your own tokens to you. Nothing was sold.

Read-only by design.

  • Kryptos only ever needs your public wallet address
  • A public address is read-only. It can't move or spend anything
  • We never ask for your recovery phrase or private key
  • Remove a wallet whenever you like, and its data goes with it

If something doesn't sync.

My address does not work

Check which Bifrost you are on. This network uses addresses starting 0x. The Polkadot project of the same name uses a completely different format.

My rewards look wrong

They settle every twelve hours rather than continuously or annually, so the total is made up of many small receipts at different prices.

My staked BFC is missing

Check whether your stake sits under a different address from the one you normally use. Staking here often involves more than one.
