Stable is a network built for stablecoin payments. Your address starts with 0x and gas is paid in USDT0, a dollar-pegged token, rather than in something volatile.
That was not always the case. The gas token changed in February 2026, so fee records from before then are denominated in a different asset.
Some transfers carry no fee at all, and on others the fee is paid by somebody else, which breaks the usual assumption that every transaction costs the sender something.

Good to know
- Gas is paid in a stablecoin, so each fee has almost no gain attached.
- The gas token changed in February 2026, so older fee records use a different asset.
- The network's own governance token is not the gas token and is used for staking instead.
Three assets that are easy to confuse
Stable is straightforward to use and slightly fiddly to record, because three different assets are in play and two of them have similar-sounding roles.
The gas token is a dollar-pegged stablecoin. Every transaction fee is a disposal of it, and because it tracks a dollar, the gain on each is essentially nothing. That is the simple part.
The complication is that this was not always the gas token. The network switched to it in February 2026, having previously used a different one. So a history spanning that date has fees denominated in two different assets, and anything assuming a single fee asset throughout will attribute the earlier ones incorrectly.
The third asset is the network's own governance token, which is used for staking and governance and cannot pay for gas. People reasonably assume a network's headline token is what pays fees, and here it is not.
There is one more wrinkle worth knowing. Some transfers on this network carry no protocol fee at all, and on others the fee is covered by somebody else rather than by the sender. Both cases break the usual assumption that every transaction leaves a small cost behind, and in neither case is there anything for you to deduct, because nothing left your balance. For how fees and disposals are treated where you file, see the USA crypto tax guide or the UK crypto tax guide.

Sending stablecoins with little or no fee
Some transfers here carry no protocol fee, which makes the chain attractive for payments and leaves nothing to record as a cost.
Reconciling across the gas token change
Fees before February 2026 were paid in a different asset from fees afterwards.
Keeping three assets apart
The stablecoin used for gas, the older token it replaced and the governance token are three different things.

Fees are stablecoin disposals
Gas comes out of a dollar-pegged asset, so each fee disposes of something whose value barely moves. Reportable, but with essentially no gain.
The gas token changed in February 2026
Fee records before and after that date are denominated in different assets. A report assuming one throughout will misattribute the earlier ones.
A sponsored fee is not your cost
Where somebody else paid, nothing left your balance and there is nothing to add to what your assets cost you.
The governance token is not the gas token
It is used for staking and governance rather than for paying fees, so the two should not be conflated in your records.
Lecture seule par conception.
- Kryptos only ever needs your public wallet address
- A public address is read-only. It can't move or spend anything
- We never ask for your recovery phrase or private key
- Remove a wallet whenever you like, and its data goes with it
Si la synchronisation échoue.
Some transfers here carry no protocol fee, and on others the fee is sponsored. Neither cost you anything.
The gas token changed in February 2026. That is expected.
It is not the gas token. Fees are paid in the network's stablecoin.
