That ordering matters: the exit closed before the chain does. If you still hold assets there, the usual route out is already gone.
The network is still producing blocks for now, so balances remain readable, which is worth using while it lasts.

- Open your wallet and copy your address. It starts with 0x.
- If you also held on Shimmer's original layer, that uses a different address starting smr1 and holds a separate balance.
On Kryptos
- Go to Kryptos.io and sign up with your Google account.
- From the menu, click Integrations.
- Click Add Integration and search for Shimmer EVM.
- Click the Shimmer EVM icon, then choose Import using Address.
- Give the wallet a name, paste your address, and click Import Your Transactions.

- Your Shimmer EVM address starts with 0x. Your holdings on the original Shimmer layer sit under a different address starting smr1.
- No conversion of SMR into anything else has been announced. Anything you read proposing a ratio is a community suggestion, not an official one.
The exit closed before the chain did
Shimmer is being wound down, and the sequence of dates is the thing to understand, because it is not the order people expect.
The bridge for moving assets off the chain closed on 29 August 2026. Block production stops on 30 September 2026. So the usual way out shut roughly a month before the chain itself does, and anyone who was waiting for the final deadline to act has already missed the one that mattered.
The chain is still producing blocks in the meantime, which means balances and history remain readable for now. That is worth using: once block production stops, the chain cannot be queried at all, and anything you have not captured becomes very hard to evidence. If you have a position here, exporting what you can is time well spent.
For tax, a stranded balance on a chain with an announced shutdown date is one of the cleaner loss cases. Most crypto losses are messy about exactly when an asset became worthless. Here there is a published date and a public announcement. Whether you can claim it still depends on where you file, and it is worth taking the dates to an accountant. One thing we are not going to tell you is what SMR converts into, because no conversion has been announced. There are figures circulating in community discussions, including a specific ratio against IOTA. Those are proposals from members of the community, not decisions, and recording a conversion that has not happened would put something in your records that is not true.
Two Shimmer balances, two address formats
Shimmer runs an Ethereum-style environment alongside its own original layer, and they do not share an address.
On Shimmer EVM your address starts with 0x, as on any Ethereum-style chain, and that is what you paste to import it. On the original layer, addresses look completely different and start with smr1.
The two hold separate balances. Somebody who used both has two unrelated-looking strings and two sets of holdings, and importing one shows half the picture. Moving between them was possible directly from the wallet software rather than through a conventional bridge, which means those movements may not look like bridging in a transaction list.
With the chain closing, the practical advice is the same for both: capture what you can now, while there is still something to read.

The chain stops on 30 September 2026. That gives an unusually precise date for a worthlessness claim, if your country allows one, because the closure is announced rather than inferred.
Do not act on any conversion ratio you have read
No official conversion of SMR into another asset has been announced. Figures circulating in community discussions are proposals, not commitments, and recording a conversion that has not happened would misstate your position.
Your two Shimmer balances are separate
The EVM chain and the original layer hold different balances under different address formats. Both need accounting for.
Export while you still can
Once block production stops, the chain cannot be queried. Anything you want evidenced should be captured before then.
