MultiversX was called Elrond until November 2022. The rename changed the branding only: EGLD stayed as it was, with no swap and nothing to migrate.
Addresses here start with erd1 rather than 0x. One address covers your EGLD along with every token and NFT you hold, so a single paste is enough.
Staking is very common on this network, and how rewards reach you depends on which provider you delegated to.
What you get out of the box

On MultiversX
- Open your wallet, xPortal or the web wallet, and copy your address. It starts with erd1.
On Kryptos
- Go to Kryptos.io and sign up with your Google account.
- From the menu, click Integrations.
- Click Add Integration and search for MultiversX.
- Click the MultiversX icon, then choose Import using Address.
- Give the wallet a name, paste your address, and click Import Your Transactions.
Good to know
- Old exchange records and tax reports may still say Elrond. It is the same network and the same token.
- Transfers between addresses on this network can complete in stages, so one payment may appear as more than one record.
- A herotag is a nickname pointing at your address. Kryptos needs the erd1 address itself.
Elrond, MultiversX, and what did not change
In November 2022 Elrond rebranded to MultiversX. Nine letters changed on a website, and a surprising amount of confusion followed.
Nothing happened to the token. EGLD before the rename and EGLD after it are the same asset, on the same network, at the same addresses. There was no swap, no snapshot, no claim and no migration. You did not dispose of anything, so there is nothing to report from the rename itself, and your original purchase price carries straight through.
Where it causes trouble is in paperwork. Exchange statements, old tax reports and plenty of tools still say Elrond. Some still use the old ticker. Those records describe the same holding, and splitting them into two assets would break your history in half and lose the cost attached to the older part.
It is worth saying plainly, because renames are a favourite cover for scams: there is nothing to claim and nothing to swap. Anything asking you to migrate Elrond tokens is a theft attempt. For how holding periods work where you file, see the USA crypto tax guide or the UK crypto tax guide.
Staking, and why the reward may never reach your wallet
Staking participation on MultiversX is high, and delegation is how most people do it. You pick a provider, delegate your EGLD, and rewards accumulate.
What happens next depends on the provider. Some pay rewards you claim yourself, which arrive in your balance when you claim them. Others redelegate automatically, folding the reward back into your stake so it starts earning too.
The second kind is where records go wrong. Nothing ever reaches your spendable balance, so it can look as though you earned nothing all year. You did: the reward was received and then immediately reinvested, and in most countries it is income at the point it became yours, regardless of what happened to it a moment later.
Taking EGLD back out is a two-step process with a waiting period between undelegating and withdrawing. Neither step sells anything. Both are movements of your own coins, and treating the withdrawal as a disposal would invent a gain that never happened.

Delegating EGLD to a staking provider
Rewards are either claimed or redelegated depending on how your provider is set up. Claims are receipts on the day they land; redelegation reinvests them without them ever reaching your spendable balance.
Holding tokens alongside EGLD
Tokens on this network sit directly in your account rather than in separate contracts, so one address import picks up everything you hold.
Untangling records that say Elrond
Anything from before late 2022 uses the old name. It describes the same holding and belongs in the same history.

The Elrond rename was not a taxable event
Elrond became MultiversX in name only. EGLD carried on unchanged, with no swap and no new token, so your holding period and original cost continue without a break.
Staking rewards are income when you receive them
A claimed reward is income at that day's value, and that value becomes its cost for a later sale. Rewards that are redelegated are generally still received first, then reinvested.
Undelegating is not a sale
Taking EGLD back out of staking returns your own coins to you. It happens in steps with a wait in between, and none of those steps is a disposal.
One transfer can produce several records
The network splits its work across sections, so a payment between two accounts may complete in stages with different timestamps. It is one movement of money, not several.
