Concordium is a network that checks who you are before you can open an account. You verify your identity with a provider, and only then can you hold anything.

Your address is a 50-character string, usually starting with a 3 or a 4. The identity behind it is encrypted and not visible in the address itself.

The quirk that matters most for records is that one account has millions of valid addresses. They are all the same account, and they share one balance.

One account, millions of addresses

This is the thing that makes Concordium different from every other network in this catalogue, and it will confuse any tool that treats an address as an identity.

A Concordium account does not have one address. It has roughly sixteen million of them, all valid, all pointing at the same account. They are not created or registered; they exist automatically. Only the last few characters differ, with everything before that identical across the whole set.

They share one balance and one transaction history. Money sent to any of them arrives in the same place. So two addresses that look almost the same, differing only at the very end, are one wallet, and importing both as separate wallets would count the same holding twice.

The design exists for privacy: you can hand a different address to each person you deal with, and they cannot tell from the addresses alone that they are paying the same account.

Two practical consequences. Staking rewards always arrive at the account's main address, which may not be the one you use day to day, so reward income can appear somewhere you were not watching. And the sharing is not total: while your CCD is unified across every address, other kinds of token are often tracked per address instead, so one account can hold separate token balances at different addresses. That is the reverse of the usual problem and the reason a complete picture needs more than one address checked.

A setting that changes how your rewards are taxed

Concordium pays staking rewards once a day, and there is a single toggle deciding what happens to them.

With restaking switched on, rewards are added straight to your stake. Nothing reaches your spendable balance and there is no payment to point at. Your staked amount grows and the reason is not recorded as a transfer.

With it off, rewards are deposited into your spendable balance each day, where they are visible and countable.

In most countries both are income. Reinvesting something does not mean you never received it, and the automatic nature of the reinvestment does not change that. But only one of the two leaves an obvious trail, which is why compounded rewards get missed.

The wrinkle is that the toggle can be changed whenever you like, including partway through a year. So a single year's history can contain both patterns, and any approach that assumes one mode for the whole period will misstate part of it. Kryptos reads the actual behaviour from the chain rather than assuming.
