Beam

First, a disambiguation. This page is about Beam the gaming network, built on Avalanche and run by the BeamX community. There is a completely unrelated privacy coin also called Beam, also ticker BEAM, and if that is what you hold this is the wrong page.

The gaming chain uses addresses starting 0x and pays gas in BEAM. Most people arrive through a game rather than through a wallet app.

That last point causes the main import problem: the address a game gives you is often not the address your login key would produce.

What you get out of the box

BEAM transfers and gas
Game item mints, trades and transfers
Marketplace purchases and sales
Swaps and liquidity on Beam Swap
Bridge movements to and from other networks

On Beam

  1. Open your Beam wallet and copy the address it shows you. It starts with 0x.
  2. If you signed into a game rather than a wallet, use the address the game shows. An address worked out from an exported key is usually the signer rather than the wallet.

On Kryptos

  1. Go to Kryptos.io and sign up with your Google account.
  2. From the menu, click Integrations.
  3. Click Add Integration and search for Beam.
  4. Click the Beam icon, then choose Import using Address.
  5. Give the wallet a name, paste your address, and click Import Your Transactions.

Good to know

  • If you hold the privacy coin also called Beam, it is a different project on a different network and is not covered here.
  • Games often pay your transaction fees, so a fee shown against a transaction may not be money you spent.
  • If you held MC before late 2023, it became BEAM. The price you paid for the MC carries into the BEAM.

Two projects, one ticker

Before anything else, make sure you are in the right place. Two unrelated projects are called Beam and both use the ticker BEAM.

One is this network: a gaming chain built on Avalanche, grown out of Merit Circle and now run by its community. It uses Ethereum-style addresses, hosts games and their items, and is what an integration catalogue normally means by Beam.

The other is a privacy coin, older, on its own network, using a completely different design where transactions are deliberately not readable in the way this page assumes. Nothing here applies to it.

The shared ticker causes real problems beyond confusion. Price data keyed on the symbol alone can pull the wrong chart, and the two have very different price histories. If your BEAM position came from a privacy-focused wallet rather than a game, you are holding the other one.

The wallet a game made for you

Beam is built so that people can play games without understanding wallets, and it succeeds at that well enough to cause a records problem.

When you sign into a game, it can create a wallet on your behalf. That wallet is a small contract with its own address, and a key held behind your login is registered as allowed to sign for it. Your items and tokens live at the contract's address, not at the address that key would produce on its own.

So the usual instruction, export your key and take the address, gives you the signer. Import that and you see an empty account with no history, which looks like something has gone wrong when nothing has.

The same arrangement lets games pay transaction fees for players. That is pleasant to use and means a fee shown against a transaction was often not paid by you. It is not a cost you can add to what your assets cost you, because it never left your balance.

The instruction that works in every case is to copy the address the game or wallet interface displays. For how holdings are reported where you file, see the USA crypto tax guide or the UK crypto tax guide.

Finding the address a game created for you

Signing into a game can create a wallet for you behind the scenes. Its address is where your items are, and it is not the one your login key would produce.

Carrying cost through the MC migration

Merit Circle's MC token became BEAM from late 2023. The original purchase price should follow into the BEAM rather than restarting.

Trading game items

Items are ordinary assets. Buying, selling and receiving them are acquisitions and disposals even though they happen inside a game.

The MC migration was not a sale

MC became BEAM under a migration that opened in late 2023 and ran for a year. Holders exchanged one token for another without disposing of anything, so the original cost should carry across.

Sponsored fees are not your cost

Where a game pays gas for you, nothing left your balance. Adding a fee you did not pay would overstate what your assets cost you.

Items earned in a game are income

Assets awarded for playing are received at their value on the day. Selling them later is measured against that value.

Very little lending or trading happens here

The whole chain holds under a million dollars across two applications. If you are looking for liquidity positions, you probably have none, and the work is in items and transfers.

  • Kryptos only ever needs your public wallet address
  • A public address is read-only. It can't move or spend anything
  • We never ask for your recovery phrase or private key
  • Remove a wallet whenever you like, and its data goes with it

Si algo no sincroniza.

My wallet shows no transactions

You may have imported the address derived from your login key rather than the wallet the game created. Copy the address shown inside the game or wallet interface.

My transactions show fees I did not pay

Games on Beam often cover gas for players. The fee appears on the transaction but did not come out of your balance.

My BEAM has no purchase price

If it came from the MC migration, import the wallet or exchange account that held the MC. The cost carries forward from there.
