Abstract is an Ethereum layer 2 built for consumer apps by the team behind Pudgy Penguins. Gas is paid in ETH.
It has one property that breaks the usual instructions: your address is not derived from your key. Every account here is a small contract, created for you when you sign up.
So the usual advice, export your key and take the address it gives you, produces the wrong address and an empty wallet.
What you get out of the box

On Abstract
- Open your Abstract wallet and copy the address it shows you. That is your real address.
- Do not use an address derived from an exported key. That is the key that signs for your wallet, not the wallet itself, and it holds nothing.
On Kryptos
- Go to Kryptos.io and sign up with your Google account.
- From the menu, click Integrations.
- Click Add Integration and search for Abstract.
- Click the Abstract icon, then choose Import using Address.
- Give the wallet a name, paste your address, and click Import Your Transactions.
Good to know
- Your wallet is a contract, so it only exists on chain once you have used it. Before that an explorer will show nothing.
- Many apps here pay your gas for you, so transactions can cost you nothing.
- One transaction can bundle several actions together, so a single record may contain a swap and an approval and a deposit.
Why your key does not give you your address
On Ethereum and almost everywhere else, your address comes straight out of your private key. Same key, same address, every time, and any tool can work one out from the other. Abstract does not work that way, and the difference matters the moment you try to import anything.
Here, every account is a small contract deployed on your behalf. A key is generated behind the scenes and registered as an approved signer for that contract, but the contract has its own address and that is where your assets live. The key authorises; it does not identify.
So there are two addresses in play and only one of them holds anything. Someone who exports their key and derives an address the usual way gets the signer, imports it, and sees an empty wallet with no history. Nothing is broken and nothing is lost; they have imported the wrong address.
It gets less obvious still if you signed up with an email address or a passkey, because then you may never have seen a recovery phrase at all. The right answer in every case is to copy the address the wallet interface shows you.
Two smaller consequences follow from the same design. Your wallet does not exist on chain until you first use it, so an explorer can legitimately show nothing for an address you consider real. And because signers are approved rather than built in, they can be changed without your address changing, which is convenient and means a key is not a reliable way to identify a wallet over time. Signing in by email or a passkey means you may never see a recovery phrase. The address in the wallet interface is the one that holds your assets.

Sponsored gas is not your cost
Where an app pays your fee, nothing left your balance. Adding a fee you did not pay would overstate what your assets cost you.
One record can hold several events
Because transactions can be bundled, a single entry may contain an approval, a swap and a deposit. Each needs treating on its own merits rather than as one action.
Creating your wallet is not an event
The first transaction deploys your wallet contract. It moves no value and is not a disposal, though it appears in your history.
Points are not income yet
Abstract runs a points programme. Points that cannot be moved or sold are generally not income. If they ever convert into a token, that conversion is the date to record.
