Robinhood Crypto

Robinhood Crypto is the crypto side of the Robinhood app, and it is a separate business from the part that holds your shares. Everything still lands in one tax package at the end of the year, but the two are kept apart in a way that matters when you go looking for your history.

Here is the trap. Robinhood's account activity report, the CSV most people reach for, does not contain your crypto. Robinhood says so itself: futures, crypto and spending activity are excluded from those reports. Download it, import it, and your crypto trades are absent, with nothing to indicate anything is missing.

Robinhood does offer a crypto API in the US, and it lets you pick exactly which permissions a key gets, so you can create one that only reads. That is the cleanest route.

What you get out of the box

Crypto buys and sells
Staking and the rewards it pays
Rewards from referrals and card cashback
Crypto transferred in and out
Fees on trades and transfers
Your history reconciled against the forms Robinhood issues you

On Robinhood

  1. Sign in on the web and go to your crypto account settings.
  2. Select Add key.
  3. Choose only the read permissions: reading your accounts, holdings, orders, products and quotes. Leave anything that places orders switched off.
  4. Save the credentials somewhere safe when they are shown.

On Kryptos

  1. Go to Kryptos.io and sign up with your Google account.
  2. From the menu, click Integrations.
  3. Click Add Integration and search for Robinhood Crypto.
  4. Choose Import using API Keys, paste your key and secret, then click Import Your Transactions.
  5. To pull a specific date range instead of everything, open Advanced Options before importing.

Good to know

  • The crypto API is available to Robinhood Crypto customers in the United States.
  • Your account activity CSV does not include crypto. Robinhood states this directly, and it is the single most common reason a Robinhood import comes back empty.
  • Robinhood issues you tax forms as well, so your own numbers and theirs both exist and should agree.
  • Crypto you transferred in from elsewhere usually arrives without a cost attached, because that information does not travel with it.

Why the obvious export is the wrong one

Robinhood has more than one kind of report, and the one that is easiest to find is the one that will not help you.

The account activity report covers your brokerage and retirement accounts. Robinhood's own help pages say plainly that futures, crypto and spending activity are not included. It downloads cleanly, imports cleanly, and contains no crypto at all, which is much worse than an error because nothing looks wrong.

Use the crypto API key if you are in the US, or the crypto-specific statements otherwise, and check the imported totals against the tax forms Robinhood sends you. For how crypto income and disposals are treated, see the USA crypto tax guide or, if you are filing elsewhere, the UK crypto tax guide.

The crypto the standard export leaves out

Robinhood's account activity CSV excludes crypto entirely. A tax tool fed only that file produces a report with a crypto section that is empty and looks finished.

Numbers that match your forms

Robinhood reports figures to the tax authority and to you. Your own records need to line up with what was filed, and where they differ you want to know why before anyone else asks.

Cost that did not travel with the coins

Crypto moved in from another wallet or exchange arrives without its purchase price attached. Connect where it came from and the cost follows it, instead of the whole sale looking like profit.

Your form may show proceeds without cost

For the 2025 tax year the authority is given gross proceeds, while you get proceeds and cost where Robinhood has it. From the 2026 tax year both are reported, which means a mismatch between your figures and theirs becomes visible.

Transferred-in crypto has a cost gap

When crypto moves between platforms the purchase price does not go with it, so Robinhood may not know what yours cost. The window for adding that yourself in the app has closed, so gaps in older years are now baked into the form and have to be filled from your own records.

Rewards are income at what they were worth

Staking rewards, referral rewards and card cashback are income valued when you received them. Rewards over the reporting threshold appear on a form; below it there is no form, but they still count.

Staking has a fee taken off the top

Robinhood charges a percentage of staking rewards, on top of anything the staking provider takes. What lands in your account is already net of that.

Standardmäßig schreibgeschützt.

  • Create the key with read permission only, never withdrawal
  • A read-only key can see your history but can't move funds
  • Kryptos never asks for your password or login details
  • Revoke the key on the exchange at any time and the connection stops

My crypto trades did not import

You probably used the account activity report, which excludes crypto by design. Use the API key or the crypto-specific statements instead.

My cost basis is missing on some coins

That is usually crypto transferred in from elsewhere, since the purchase price does not travel with it. Connect the source and the cost follows.

My numbers do not match my tax form

Check for transferred-in coins with no cost attached, and for rewards below the reporting threshold that appear in your records but not on the form.
