Linea is an Ethereum layer 2 built by Consensys, the team behind MetaMask. It uses the same address as Ethereum, so one paste covers your whole position on the chain.
Fees are paid in ETH. The LINEA token exists, but it is not what you pay gas with, and plenty of chain listings get that wrong.
The event most people need help with is the airdrop. If you claimed LINEA, that claim is an acquisition and it needs a value attached to it.

On Linea
- Open your wallet and copy your address. It starts with 0x and matches your Ethereum address.
On Kryptos
- Go to Kryptos.io and sign up with your Google account.
- From the menu, click Integrations.
- Click Add Integration and search for Linea.
- Click the Linea icon, then choose Import using Address.
- Give the wallet a name, paste your address, and click Import Your Transactions.
Good to know
- Withdrawals back to Ethereum clear in hours rather than the week an optimistic rollup takes. Do not assume Linea behaves like Base here.
- Tokens bridged to Linea are separate contracts from the Ethereum originals, so cost basis only follows if both wallets are imported.
- MetaMask and Linea come from the same company, but your MetaMask wallet still needs adding as an address like any other.
What the LINEA airdrop means for your return
Airdrops cause more confusion than any other event in crypto tax, and the LINEA distribution has the two features that cause it: a gap between the snapshot and the claim, and a deadline.
The snapshot was taken in July 2025 and decided who got what. The claim opened on 10 September 2025 and ran for 90 days. Those are different dates with different prices, and only one of them is the day anything reached you.
In most jurisdictions you acquire an asset when you gain control of it. Nothing was in your control at the snapshot: you could not sell it, move it or spend it. The claim transaction is the acquisition, and its date sets both the income figure where airdrops are taxed as income, and the starting cost for any later sale.

Claiming the LINEA airdrop
The claim window opened in September 2025 and ran for 90 days. What matters for tax is the date you claimed and the value then, not the earlier snapshot that decided your allocation.
Bridging back and forth to Ethereum
Linea settles withdrawals in hours, so people move funds more often than on slower layer 2s. Each round trip is a pair of transfers plus fees, and Kryptos pairs them rather than reading them as trades.
Restaking ETH
Receipt tokens like ezETH represent staked ETH rather than ETH itself. Minting one and redeeming it are separate events, and the gain shows up on redemption.

The claim is the acquisition, not the snapshot
Your allocation was decided by a snapshot taken months before the claim opened. In most countries you acquire a token when you can control it, which is the day the claim transaction went through. Use that date and that price.
An unclaimed airdrop is not income
Tokens nobody claimed went back to the ecosystem fund. If you never claimed, you never received anything, and there is nothing to declare.
Bridging to yourself is a transfer
Moving ETH between Ethereum and Linea does not change who owns it. Import both wallets so the two legs match instead of reading as a sale and a purchase.
Fees are ETH disposals
Gas on Linea comes out of your ETH. Each fee is a small disposal, and an active year produces a lot of them.

Set the acquisition to the date the claim transaction confirmed. Kryptos prices it from there. The snapshot date is not when you received anything.
Add your Ethereum wallet as well. Kryptos can only pair the two legs of a transfer when both sides are imported.
Import the wallet that held the ETH before you restaked it. The cost of the receipt token comes from the ETH that went in.
