Botanix has shut down. Botanix Labs announced the wind-down in June 2026 and told users to withdraw their assets before the deadline. The network is no longer reachable.
Unlike some closures, this one came with warning and a withdrawal window, so most people got their bitcoin out. That withdrawal is itself worth recording properly.
Its documentation still lists working connection details with no mention of the shutdown, which is why people keep trying to connect.
What you get out of the box
So importierst du.
Before you start
- Add the Bitcoin wallet you withdrew to. That is where your assets went and where the record of the exit sits.
- Gather anything you saved from Botanix itself before the shutdown.
On Kryptos
- Log in to Kryptos.
- Go to Integrations.
- Click Add Integration, then search for and select Botanix.
- Click the Botanix icon and choose Upload CSV.
- Upload the file. Kryptos reads it and categorises the transactions for you.
Good to know
- Botanix had no token of its own, so there is no airdrop or migration to account for. Only the exit.
- The documentation site still shows live connection details. The network behind them is gone.
- Assets not withdrawn before the deadline are not recoverable.
An orderly shutdown, and why that matters
Botanix Labs announced in June 2026 that it was winding the network down, published a post explaining why, and put a banner on its homepage telling users to withdraw before the deadline. The network is now unreachable.
As closures go, this is the good version. Users were told in advance, given a window, and most got their bitcoin back. Compare that with chains that just stopped, where holders found out afterwards and had no way to act.
That difference matters for your records, because it means most people here have a real withdrawal to account for rather than a stranded balance to write off. The question is what that withdrawal was, and the answer depends on how the original deposit was handled.
Botanix locked bitcoin across a rotating set of multi-signature arrangements and gave users a matching amount on its own network, with no token of its own and bitcoin as the fee asset. If you treated going in as a mere change of form, coming out is the same in reverse and neither is a disposal. If you treated going in as an exchange, then coming out reverses it and closes that position. What you should not do is treat the two ends differently, which produces a gain or loss out of nothing.
For anyone who missed the deadline, the position is worse and simpler: the assets are not recoverable, and whether you can claim that as a loss depends on where you file and on showing what you paid. See the USA crypto tax guide or the UK crypto tax guide.

Recording the forced exit
Withdrawing during the wind-down window returned your bitcoin. Whether that closed a position depends on how the original deposit was treated.
Accounting for assets you did not withdraw
Anything left after the deadline is unrecoverable, which is a worthlessness question rather than a sale.
Establishing what you originally paid
The chain cannot be queried now, so cost basis comes from saved records and the Bitcoin side of your deposits.

The exit may have closed a position
If your original deposit was treated as an exchange of bitcoin for something else, then withdrawing reversed it and is a disposal of that something. If the deposit was treated as a non-event, the withdrawal is one too. The two have to be treated consistently.
A forced exit is still a real event
Being told to withdraw by a deadline does not change what the withdrawal was. It happened on a date, at a value, and belongs in that tax year.
Anything left behind is a loss question
Assets not withdrawn are unrecoverable. Whether that is a deductible loss depends on where you file and on evidencing what you paid.
There was no token to account for
Botanix never issued one, so unlike most shutdowns there is no airdrop, migration or reissue in your history.
Standardmäßig schreibgeschützt.
- A file upload is read-only. Nothing connects to your account
- Kryptos never asks for your password or login details
- Delete an import at any time and its data goes with it
- Keep the original file: it is your evidence if anyone asks later

The documentation was not updated. The homepage carries the shutdown notice and the network itself no longer responds.
The network was wound down in 2026 and its endpoint no longer reaches a running node.
