Taiko is a network built on top of Ethereum to make transactions cheaper. It's designed to behave as much like Ethereum as possible, so your wallet, your address and the apps you use all work the same way.
Fees on Taiko are paid in ETH, not in TAIKO. This one catches people out, because plenty of write-ups say otherwise. You move ETH over from Ethereum and spend that. TAIKO is used for voting on how the network is run.
The thing to watch on your tax report is moving funds between Ethereum and Taiko. It's the same money either way, but it doesn't always look like it.
What you get out of the box
Pick your import method.
On Taiko
- Open the wallet you use for Taiko. MetaMask, Rabby and most others work.
- Copy your wallet address. It's the same one you use on Ethereum.
On Kryptos
- Go to Kryptos.io and sign up with your Google account.
- From the menu, click Integrations.
- Click Add Integration and search for Taiko.
- Click the Taiko icon, then choose Import using Address.
- Give the wallet a name, paste your address, and click Import Your Transactions.
Why moving funds needs care
Sending assets between Ethereum and Taiko doesn't physically move anything. Your original is held on one side and a matching token is issued on the other. Send it back and that token is destroyed before the original is released.
Taken at face value, one round trip looks like two sales. It isn't. You held the same asset the whole time. Kryptos matches the halves so it counts once, the same way it handles Arbitrum. For how positions across networks come together, see DeFi tracking.
Generating your report
Once your wallets are connected, open Reports from the menu, choose what you need and download it. Kryptos applies the rules for the country you've set.

Moving funds counts once
When you send funds to Taiko, the original is held on Ethereum and a matching token is issued to you on Taiko. Coming back, that one is destroyed and the original released. Read literally that's two disposals for one movement of your own money. Kryptos matches the two halves.
Fast withdrawals still recognised
Take a fast withdrawal and the money reaches you from a third party rather than from the network itself, which doesn't look like a withdrawal to most tools. It's still yours.
Fees counted in the right token
Fees on Taiko come out of your ETH, not your TAIKO. They're matched to the transaction they paid for, in the token you spent.
Audit-ready, automatically.
Once your wallets and exchanges are connected, generating a tax report takes a single click. Open Reports from the menu, choose your jurisdiction, and download.
Moving to Taiko isn't a sale
You still own the asset on the other side, so the two halves are matched rather than counted as a sale on one network and a purchase on the other. Left unmatched, the same holding also shows up twice.
Claiming is a separate step
Funds moving between networks either arrive on their own or need you to claim them. Either way the arrival is its own transaction, sometimes days after you sent it.
Withdrawals take hours, not minutes
Coming back from Taiko to Ethereum waits on the network confirming your transaction, usually several hours. Worth knowing if an exit lands close to a tax year end.
Read-only by design.
- Kryptos only ever needs your public wallet address
- A public address is read-only. It can't move or spend anything
- We never ask for your recovery phrase or private key
- Remove a wallet whenever you like, and its data goes with it
If something doesn't sync.
The Taiko version of a token is separate from the Ethereum one. Add both wallets so the two halves match up.
It may still need claiming. Funds moving between networks sometimes wait for you to collect them.
Taiko fees are paid in ETH. If you were expecting TAIKO, that's the mix-up: TAIKO is for voting on the network, not for paying fees.
